Shimano XT M772 9 Speed Rear Derailleur
Deore XT will always be known as the original mountain bike groupset, though over the years it has garnered a reputation for bringing out innovative technology and construction to all types of riders. The latest M770 XT componentry is no exception and the rear derailleur sees the integration of several key features that make this a trusty companion for back country riding. The low-profile Shadow design, direct cable routing, beefy return spring and sealed pulleys all add up to a stiff and stout package that also happens to provide silky-smooth gear changes. For 2012, Deore XT continues to combine the performance of XTR, with real-world dependability.
New Shadow technology employs a low profile design intended for more aggressive riding. Part of the Shadow design means the rear derailleur will not contact the chain stay, leading to quiet and trouble free performance. By bringing the mechanism closer to the bike and away from pesky rocks and trees, you run less risk of having your derailleur ripped off when the trail gets tight. Add to this the direct cable routing that means there is less derailleur cable hanging out the back of the bike, and you have a very stealthy setup ready for the most technical of rides. Compared to the SLX, the XT rear mech uses a sealed ceramic bushing for the top pulley and a sealed cartidge bearing for the lower pulley, leading to longer jockey wheel life regardless of the conditions. More machining and clever use of materials also brings the weight down, so you can be sure you're not carrying excess mass.
Combine the XT rear derailleur with the XT shifters and a set of Shimano genuine cables, and you'll have some of the smoothest shifting available that also happens to be the most durable.
