Shimano XT M75 29er Wheels
The Shimano XT M75 29er wheels come into the Shimano lineup as a lightweight wheel replacement for the heavy stock wheels that tend to come on 29" mountain bikes. They share all of the features with the standard 26" XT wheels, such as the 36 point freewheel engagement, stiff box-section rim and UST tubeless compatibility, but in the larger rim format. Most 29er wheelsets weight over 2kg, but the XT's come in at an impressive 1850 grams, which reduces rotational weight and improves your bikes acceleration.
If you're looking for a well-engineered, feature-packed set of hoops, the Shimano wheels lineup is very tough to beat. All of the new features packed into the latest Shimano XT wheels are now available for your 29er bike. The latest Shimano mountain bike wheels utilise wider rims, 24 straight-pull spokes, faster engaging hubs and a more conventional 2-cross lacing pattern. 29er mountain bikes shouldn't have to put up with heavy, flexy and sluggish wheels, so if you're looking for an upgrade the new Shimano wheelset range is now stiffer, lighter, stronger and easier to maintain than any other 29er wheel out there.
Rims
The most important part of any wheel, the rim determines long term durability and overall wheel stiffness. Although Shimano could have lightened the rim on the MT75 wheels, it would have only come at the expense of rigidity, which as we all know is a crucial characteristic to the ride quality on a 29er bike. Using a stiff box-section design made out of 7000-series aluminum alloy, the MT75 rims are 23.3mm wide with a 21mm depth and feature no external spoke holes due to the airtight UST Tubeless design. Aside from making a foolproof tubeless setup, the omission of a drilled external wall boosts rim stiffness and contributes to the stout overall feel of the wheelset. You can setup the MT75's with standard tyres & tubes, or with tubeless tyres for decreased rolling resistance.
Spokes
To maintain crucial wheel stiffness, the 29er XT wheelset features a more conventional 24-spoke design that uses stainless steel straight pull spokes to provide greater strength over other brands "J" bend spoke style. The stainless steel spokes provide higher torsional strength and allow the wheels to be built up with higher spoke tensions for a stiffer overall build. The spokes are butted for reduced weight over cheaper straight-gauge spokes and the wheels utilise alloy spoke nipples that are lighter than their brass counterparts.
Hubs
The hubs feature substantial upgrades over the cheaper MT565 wheels, with the rear freehub mechanism being the most notable. Rather than having 18 points of engagement for each revolution, the XT's use 36 points of engagement for a faster and stronger freewheel. What this translates to on the trail is a hub with faster pickup than a cheaper wheelset, with there only being 10 degrees between each "click" rather than the usual 20 degrees, providing faster acceleration when you put the hammer down. Utilising a steel freehub body that will outlast alloy and titanium versions, the rear hub will take a standard 8/9/10 speed cassette and features adjustable bearings that are user-serviceable. Continuing Shimano's dedication to keeping this wheelset stiff, the hubs feature oversized 7075 T6 Alloy axles that yield greater torsional strength at the fork and frame dropouts.
The hubs feature Centrelock rotor mounts, however they can be run with 6-Bolt rotors when using the Shimano Centrelock-to-6-Bolt adapter.
