2012 Trek Lexa Womens Road Bike The Lexa series from Trek Bikes is a Womens Specific lineup of road ready bicycles designed for female riders wanting to get into fitness, racing or just casual weekend riding with friends. Compared to the unisex models, the Trek Lexa bikes use different frame geometry that is based around typical female proportions of a shorter torso and longer leg length, along with a different centre of gravity to male riders. If you've ever ridden a bike that wasn't quite the right size for you or was "made" to fit, you'll appreciate the comfortable position that the Lexa puts you in that encourages you to ride for longer, without fear of getting a sore neck or lower back. The lightweight alloy frame used on the Lexa makes it an easy bike to get up the hills, and Trek vary the thickness of the alloy along the length of each tube to provide vibration damping that makes for a more comfortable ride. Although the Lexa is Trek's entry level WSD road bike, we would argue that getting fitted onto one of these in the correct size will provide you with a more comfortable and efficient bike than purchasing a $4000 bike that isn't correctly fitted for you - it makes that much of a difference. The level of attention to detail that goes into making the Lexa a comfortable bike goes to show Trek's determination in providing a quality option for female riders. A shorter stem and narrower handlebars suit slender female shoulders, gel bar tape provides a comfortable perch for your wrists and the carbon Bontrager fork goes a long way to reducing vibration from the road reaching your hands. Even the Bontrager Evoke WSD saddle has its fair share of R&D, with a dual-density construction providing a comfy but firm platform to support your pelvis and sit bones. The result is more blood flow and less fatigue to give you a more comfortable saddle. The Lexa is rounded out with the latest Shimano 9-speed STI shifting, with a Tiagra/Sora groupset taking care of the drivetrain to provide you with a wide range of gears for riding any terrain. If you want to get into longer rides on the road, a dedicated Womens Specific road bike like the Lexa will be an excellent option if you're after value for money and comfort.
