Shimano SH-WM82 SPD Shoe
Brand new for 2012, the Shimano Women's Specific WM82 shoe steps up performance over the WM61 with a stiffer midsole, lighter weight and additional protection making it perfect for female cyclists riding more technical terrain. Shimano revolutionised the cycling world when it brought out the very first shoe/pedal clipping system, SPD, back in 1990. Designed to integrate shoes with a clip-in pedal system, SPD or Shimano Pedalling Dynamics brought in a new era of performance by drastically increasing riders efficiency by allowing much more power throughout the pedal stroke and not just in the downward push. Fast-foward over 20 years later, and Shimano is still leading the market with it's wide-range of performance and recreational shoes for cyclists of all disciplines.
No more compromise
For 2012, Shimano set out to provide a high quality shoe option for female riders that wanted performance out on the trail whether they were racing or just weekend riding. The result is a lighter, stiffer and racier shoe that is based on the Men's XC50, but with a slimmer, lower-volume LAST to fit smaller ladies tootsies. Compared to the cheaper WM62 shoe, the WM82 gets a Glass fiber reinforced polyamid sole for stiffness and stability underfoot, with a soft arch pad that's designed to increase traction between the shoe and pedal body. At just 673 grams, a pair of WM82 shoes is not a whole lot of weight to carry around and will make you question the difference in price with carbon sole shoes. The Synthetic Leather upper is durable, supple and easy to clean, which combined with the flexible inner sole provides a snug fit that wraps around your feet neatly. The lower two Velcro straps are offset to reduce pinching and pressure points, while a Micro-Adust buckle allows you to get even tension over your ankle without cutting off circulation. Bearing in mind these shoes are designed to help pilot you quickly around the racecourse, they come shod with additional protection and low-profile armour with coverage around the sides and toe box to shield your feet in the event of a crash.
If you're currently using sneakers and flat pedals and are looking to make the jump to clip pedals, or your old cycling shoes are looking a bit worse for wear, the WM82 make a great upgrade as a durable off road shoe that is also big on performance.
