Fox 32 Float 150 RLC FIT Fork
The Fox Float fork has been around for a long time now for good reason. It is a main stay in the Fox line up that has been a rider favourite since its inception. The Float 150 comes with 15QR as standard as this helps the overall stiffness in the front end of your all mountain rig. Using the RLC & FIT damping cartridges the Float fork has all the latest technology available, as well as the Kashima coated stanchions rounding out all the features and performance you could ever hope for in a 150mm platform. If your trails demand jumping, gapping and dropping from your bike, you may want to check out the 36 series Float with 160mm travel in a beefier chassis that will take DH-level abuse. But if you're after the lightest 6" fork for your AM or trail bike that needs to perform on the climbs, technical singletrack, flats and descents, then this is your fork.

From Fox:

"Our lightweight FLOAT trail fork, famous for its legendary damping performance and light weight is back with a vengeance for 2012, enhanced by improved air spring curves that increase usable travel with lower compression ratios. Available in 140 and 150 mm travel configurations, FLOAT offers our FIT RLC damper, celebrated for its ultra-fast wheel response for incredible front-end traction and extremely wide range of rider-adjustable, external tuning options, and is treated to Kashima Coat stanchions, which significantly decrease friction and enhance durability. With our new, lighter weight, optional 15QR thru axle system and confidence-inspiring FOX chassis, FLOAT's steering precision, front wheel control, and desirability just keep improving".

Kashima Coat
The Kashima Coat is not only more durable than the stanchion coating used on competitors forks and previous Fox forks, it also reduces friction. Fox test riders reported better overall traction in the front end and better small bump compliance which is all good news for those who appreciate good suspension. You will notice the Fox Forks that have the Kashima Coated stanchions by the distinctive Gold finish on the upper legs, that not only serves to be super shiny and slippery, but also adds a heavy dose of bling to your steed!

RLC FIT Damper
Carried over for 2012, albeit with some refinement for improved adjustability, is the RLC FIT damper. RLC stands for "Rebound, Lockout and Low-Speed Compression" - all of which are externally adjustable for easy trail-tuning. The FIT cartridge that debuted on the 2010 model is continued on the 2012 Fox Fork range and serves to reduce the aeration of the oil inside the fork, meaning your suspension is more consistent over rougher terrain from the top of the mountain, all the way to the bottom.

Rebound
Rebound adjustment is all about controlling how slow or fast your fork returns to full travel after hitting an obstacle. Dial the red knob clockwise and the fork slows down, dial the knob anti-clockwise and the fork speeds up in return. Our hot tip at My Mountain is to run the rebound on the slower side than what you might be used to, in order to allow your front tyre to stick to the trail and maintain better traction.

Lockout
The lockout feature on the RLC forks turns your big travel fork into a super-stiff platform that is great for riding long fire-road sections or just on the tarmac on the way to the trail. The lockout "Threshold" is the black dial on top of the lockout lever that adjusts at what point the lockout disengages. Crank it up for a completely locked-out feel, or dial the threshold out so that the smallest bump from the trail will cause the fork to absorb the impact as normal.

Low-Speed Compression
The blue dial on top of the right fork leg adjusts how much low-speed compression damping (LSC) there is in the fork and thusly, how much impact that low-speed forces have on the suspension. Low-speed impacts include when you slam on the front brake and the whole fork "dives" into its travel, or when you hammer on the pedals standing up and the fork "bobs" up and down with each pedal stroke. Too much LSC damping and the fork will feel too stiff and unresponsive to smaller trail obstacles. Too little LSC damping will make the fork feel too soggy under braking and pedalling.
My Mountain Hot Tip: Try a section of trail that you know really well and ride it first with the LSC dialled all the way out, then try it again with it dialled all the way in. From there set it in the middle and keep adjusting till you find the "sweet spot" that gives you balanced performance between small-bump sensitivity and resistance to diving.
