SRAM XX Rear Derailleur While the incredible 2x10 SRAM XX groupset seemed to come out of nowhere, the foundations for its inception were found bubbling away through SRAM components over the years; the Exact Actuation technology, DiRT cable routing, composite derailleur cages and sealed bearing pulleys were all unique features that gave birth to one of the most advanced gearing systems to hit the market. Centred around a double crankset and wide-range 10 speed cassette, the XX group features pretty much the lightest of everything and the exotic XX derailleur is no exception. You only need to take a look at the World Cup XC circuit to see just how many SRAM riders are winning on the XX groupset, though with a proven track record over the years in both XC and DH, SRAM's latest top-tier component line was always going to be a hit out on the racecourse. Compared to the already impressive X0 rear derailleur, the XX model features further sculpting, machining and the lavish use of Titanium and Carbon Fiber to whittle weight down to a stunning 181 grams. The beauty about this lightweight derailleur however is that it still features that classic snappy SRAM feel with positive shifting thanks to the flex-free construction. Although you can pair the XX rear derailleur to any 10 speed SRAM trigger shifter, it would be a shame not to link it up to the awesome XX shifters for a superlight package. With SRAMs X-Glide shifting technology and the wide-range 10 speed cassette, you will find yourself staying in the one front chainring for longer, with the ability to use the whole range on the back of the cassette without fear of crossing the chain excessively. It's this ethos of reducing front derailleur shifting that we're pumped about, and it conveniently means you get to experience the slick shifting XX rear derailleur all the more. A full carbon fiber pulley cage and sealed ceramic bearing jockey wheels not only keep weight in check they also improve shifting performance. Like the X0 rear derailleur, the XX gets a Titanium main spring that is a little stronger than your average derailleur, resulting in snappier shifts that operate with more authority. From SRAM: "Leveraging the legendary history of SRAM shifting, the XX Rear Derailleur delivers incredible speed and precision. Sealed ceramic pulleys give you the highest levels of durability. The carbon fiber cage has a dedicated length specific to 2X10. Exact Actuation technology eliminates slop and shifting variation. It’s a rear derailleur perfected for ultimate off-road performance".
