Truvativ XX 10-Speed Crankset If there ever was evidence of aliens reaching earth, the SRAM XX crankset would be it. Bursting onto the mountain bike scene over the last couple of years, the 2x10 XX groupset has brought with it new technology and improved shifting performance to drivetrain systems that have seen little evolution in the past 25 years. The Carbon XX Cranks are not only some of the lightest on the market, they are also some of the stiffest and their CNC machined alloy chainrings are designed for flex-free performance that aids in accurate shifting. If you're looking to eliminate any possible excuses out on the trail or at the start line, SRAM XX will be your answer. Featuring new X-Glide shifting technology with a 2x10 specific setup, this groupset only knows one speed...Fast! The XX Cranks are centred around a new chainring system that utilises 2 rings instead of the usual 3. The reason SRAM did this was that they knew riders wanted to reduce front shifting, so they employed a wide-range 10 speed cassette out back that allows you to stay in one chainring up front for longer. We actually think this is a bit of a shame really, because the shifting on the XX cranks is so impressive that you'll be wanting to up and down shift as much as possible! This speedy operation comes courtesy of the X-Glide shifting technology that places pins and ramps in a specific pattern to increase the availability of shift "gates" each time you hit the front derailleur trigger. SRAM have also employed very specific chainring ratios in order to maximise the number of "gates" with a 1.5 ratio. For the 39/26t model, you'll see that 26 x 1.5 = 39, and for the 42/28t model you'll also notice that 28 x 1.5 = 42. Sounds simple, but it's a clever combination that SRAM have developed to make their latest double cranksets the fastest shifting bar none. Keeping weight down on the XX cranks are the carbon fiber arms that provide awesome stiffness with fewer grams, and a lightweight integrated axle ensures power is put down with authority.
From SRAM: "Coming in at 694 grams (BB30), the XX Crank delivers amazing performance and durability with no penalties in weight. The first MTB crank specifically designed for 2X10 uses some of the world’s most advanced material science. The oversized chainrings are CNC machined from 6mm 7075 aluminum blanks—2mm thicker than the competition. Unparalleled stiffness is delivered by an increased Bolt Circle Diameter (BCD) and a two-piece insert-molded carbon composite construction. The XX Crank geometry provides a narrow 156mm Q factor, efficient chainline and beveled crank arms to maximize clearance. It’s pure science in action". The Truvativ XX Cranks feature:
