2012 Trek Rig 29er Singlespeed For some, Single Speeds just make sense. And for those who it doesn't make sense to, well, they're probably not reading this. The Gary Fisher Rig is owed a lot of credit for the rise in popularity of the 29er mountain bike. Way back in 2005, Gary Fisher produced one of the first singlespeed specific 29er hardtails on the market, and the combination of simplicity, smooth-rolling 29er wheels and responsive G2 geometry made it in instant hit. For the out-of-the-saddle riding techinque that comes with riding a singlespeed bike offroad, the 29er wheels make perfect sense as they provide easier rolling than smaller 26" wheels with less bouncing around. Unlike other 29ers on the market, Trek have applied a custom fork offset branded as "G2 Geometry" that allows for fast handling in the tight stuff, with a slacker head angle for stability on the descents - For 2012, the Trek Rig continues to improve on an already sweet machine, with upgrades to the new Avid Elixir disc brakes, 100mm travel Fox Fork for smooth and responsive suspension. The heavily under-rated Bontrager Mustang wheelset is light and tubeless compatible, whilst being plenty stiff to capitalise on the G2 handling and also being responsive for hard pedalling efforts.
