2012 Trek Superfly 100 Pro Carbon 29er There is a simple reason why all the World Cup XC teams are moving to 29ers; They're faster. Period. The Superfly 100 is leading the charge for Trek on the XC racing circuit, and has been doing so for the past 3 years with its US handmade OCLV carbon fiber construction and patented G2 geometry that provide a superlight (2200 grams light!), super stiff and super fast handling 29er bike - any guess as to why they call it the Superfly?? Treks development in suspension technology over the years has culminated into a package that is designed to provide the efficiency and platform that XC racers demand, while also delivering supple bump-eating performance that works away without you noticing it. The ABP suspension design is partly responsible for this sensation, as it reduces the effects that braking has on the rear suspension and allows the shock to continue working regardless of whether you're on the anchors or not. Speaking of the shock, the Fox Float RP-23 Kashima unit is the top of the range unit and features a completely custom tune that is valved by the Trek suspension development team in California - this is no off the shelf damper. Rather than shelling out $200 to have your rear shock custom tuned to actually work on your bike, Trek do the hard work for you to ensure that the Float shock works in harmony with the Superfly's leverage ratio and ABP suspension design. Again, it's all about the attention to detail that shows Treks commitment to producing state of the art mountain bikes that are ready to shred out of the box. You would imagine that the top dog Superfly 100 Pro would be built up with a high end groupset, and you would be absolutely right! A full SRAM XX groupset is indicative of the World Cup nature of the Superfly, and in order to match the drivetrain and brakes, RockShox have graciously built the SID XX fork with the custom G2 offset crown assembly to work with Treks G2 geometry system. With 51mm of offset in the crown, the fork trail is reduced to increase steering speed, which allows Trek to build the Superfly with a slacker head angle for improved downhill stability. This patented frame geometry is a trick used by Dirt Motorbikes and is what gives the Superfly 100's handling the best of both worlds - nimblenesson the climbs and a planted feel on the descents. Upgrades over the Elite model include the Scandium-rimmed RXL wheelset that drops more rotational weight while still giving riders the ease of their Tubeless Ready system, and the DT Swiss hubs roll on precision built sealed cartridge bearings that continue the durability theme. Finishing touches like the quality Cane Creek Tapered headset, ESI silicone grips, 145 gram carbon RXL saddle and fast rolling Team-spec 29-1 tyres round out a race package that will serve the privateer XC racer with very few changes required out of the box - just slap on the race plate and you're ready to chase down the podium!

Fragile carbon? Think again! A few years ago Trek realised that everyday riders was still scared of taking carbon off-road. As the leaders in carbon fiber technology, Trek knew they could offer a better solution. So they took the best engineers and designers, and asked for better carbon, built for off-road use. The result? OCLV Mountain Carbon. OCLV Mountain Carbon takes the patented OCLV process and figures in the rigors of off-road use. It is reinforced in the right areas with unique materials, but preserves the lightweight, stiff carbon feel. Today, every carbon mountain bike Trek makes is built using OCLV Mountain Carbon—carbon that’s tougher than the trail, without the added weight.
