2012 Trek Mamba Womens 29er Mountain Bike
Trek's Womens Specific Design (or WSD for short) is all about creating a bike that is comfortable to ride, while improving your confidence out on the trail. As the name suggests, the WSD bikes are engineered specifically for women and feature a couple of clever changes over the unisex models to make them more suitable for the female physique. Improved standover clearance, a shorter top tube, a comfy female-specific saddle and re-worked suspension are all key areas in the bikes performance that make up the Womens Specific Mamba. As you can imagine, we're big fans of the WSD design concept @ My Mountain as we find it neatly fits in with our ethos for bike fitting and ensuring riders are on the best bike for their riding intentions.

Why a female-specific 29er?
That's a question we're hearing a lot lately and despite common perceptions, we think that the answer is pretty simple;

- Stability: A 29er features a slightly longer wheelbase, giving the bike a "grounded" feel that is harder to be pushed off line.
- Confidence: Thanks to the lower angle of attack, riding 29er wheels over obstacles such as logs or rock gardens are much easier compared to 26" bikes. Those areas of the trail that used to give you the heebie-jeebies are now smoother to ride over.
- Traction: The bigger tread contact patch from a 29er tyre gives a larger footprint over a standard 26" tyre, and so increases available traction whether you're climbing a technical ascent, or leaning the bike over through sweeping singletrack corners.

So whether you're a seasoned weekend warrior, or an absolute beginner to mountain biking, the advantages of riding a 29er are useful to all skill levels and all riders. Combined with the womens specific fit, the Trek Mamba WSD is an awesome value mountain bike for those wanting to hit the trails with confidence.

Our favourite features of the Mamba WSD

WSD is Women's Specific Design

It’s Trek’s approach to making a great-fitting bike, right from the start. There’s no magic recipe that makes a bike better for a woman—just attention to every single detail and dedication to getting it right.

The right saddle. The right reach, bar height, and bar width. The right suspension setup for the average woman, not just the average rider. The right geometry for a better ride, the right suspension, and the right cockpit all add up to a bike that will make you more comfortable and confidant.

 Slow-handling 29ers?

The many advantages of bigger wheels can come with a price: sleepy handling. Gary Fisher solved that with G2 geometry.
G2 Geometry is a system-wide solution to slow 29er handling. Trek have optimised frame geometry and fork geometry in tandem to create a bike that handles nimbly in tight, twisty singletrack without compromising high-speed stability. It's why the Fisher Collection 29ers handle better than any others and can be ridden the same way you would a 26” bike

Trek 29ers come from years of development under the guidance of Gary Fisher,  the father of mountain biking
