2012 Trek Madone 5.9 Road Bike There is no doubt that Ultegra Di2 is causing a stir for 2012 and so too will the Madone 5.9 road bike. The five series madone's from Trek have been a huge success, and just about any review you care to find will rave about the ride quality, stiffness and finish. 2012 sees a small but significant upgrade to the 5.9 frame set in the way of a carbon steerer fork which rounds out an amazing bit of kit.
For those out there unfamiliar with frame construction there are two different ways to go about making a carbon frame. Monocoque frames which we hear about a lot can be thought of like an Easter egg, two halves brought together to make a single structure. Tubed & lugged is where you make the frame intersections such as the seat tube/ top tube/rear stays intersection and tubes separately, then put it all together. The best frames are made with this method, but none of which are done at the five series price points. Think $$$$ more. So with that said the 5.9 frame-set is easily as good as the best frames available, with the only exception being a Trek 6 series. You need to test-ride a tubbed & lugged frame to really appreciate how good they are. You also get a stella parts mix on the 5.9 that will have you riding faster and harder than ever before. The 2012 Madone 5.9 comes Shimano Ultegra Di2 equipped which once ridden will be hard to ever go back from with a set of Ultegra tubeless wheels finishing off the whole package with the most up to date technology today. There really isn’t much more that needs to be said, this bike has it all.
