Maxxis Ignitor 26x2.1" eXCeption Tyre Washing out on corners? Losing traction on steep uphills? The Maxxis Ignitor is the tyre to give you maximum traction in all conditions. Over the years, Maxxis tires have been developing quality rubber in a huge range of tread patterns to suit riders all over the world in all sorts of conditions; think of the Crossmark, the High Roller and the Ignitor for examples of their reputation for producing popular and high quality tires. A favourite option at My Mountain, the Ignitor is an ideal front tyre for XC riding in loose & hardpack conditions due to its silly amount of grip that it provides in the corners. With its toothy profile, the Ignitor tread is designed to hunt through loose trail debris for traction to provide dependable grip whether you ride within your limits or beyond them. While not the fastest or lightest tyre around (XC racers will be after the Crossmark or Ikon tyres), the Ignitor is all about reliable grip and being able to push the limits of traction. The real beauty about the Maxxis Ignitor is its sheer versatility; Dry/Wet, Smooth/Loose, Soft Soil/Rock - nothing fazes the Ignitor and we see it staying in their lineup for a very long time. 26" eXCeption Model With many tyre casings and rubber options available in the Maxxis range, it's hard to keep up with what's what and is easy to confuse a cheap Ignitor for a more expensive model due to them sharing the same tread pattern. Being the top of the range, the Ignitor Exception model uses a much lighter and supple 120 TPI (threads per inch) carcass that reduces weight over the standard folding and wire bead versions, which also increases the tyre's ability to mould over obstacles rather than bounce off. The rubber compound is also a stickier 62a durometer that provides more grip than the cheaper rubber on the standard Ignitor. For these reasons, the eXCeption Ignitor is almost a different tyre compared to the cheap OEM tyres that often come on new bikes - you'll find these are faster, grippier, smoother and more durable. Run the Ignitor back & front on your trail bike for a dependable set of tyres that will be happy in dry and rocky conditions one day, or in muddy and loose soil the next day. Otherwise, pair it up with a Crossmark or Ikon out back for a faster rolling wheelset that provides quicker acceleration for drier conditions and easier rear-wheel drifting.
From Maxxis:
"The Ignitor tread pattern was designed for the most discerning professional racers and has laid claim to multiple World Cup victories. The well-spaced tread pattern fills in nicely to provide low rolling resistance in the straights, while the ramped pentagonal knobs provide excellent traction in the corners and in medium soil".
