Maxxis DH Inner Tube So what can you really say about a tube? Generally people will muster negative thoughts when asked about tubes - punctures, repairing holes and awkard fitting are probably the first things that come to mind. To ease your concern, Maxxis have set out to create an inner tube for downhill sized tyres with ultimate reliability in mind. The full-on DH tube uses a 1.5mm thick rubber (compared to 1.2mm on the Freeride tube) that whilst increases weight over regular mountain bike inner tubes, provides substantially better pinch-flat resistance. The other benefit of using a thicker tube is that it provides additional stability for the inside of the tyre when running lower pressures, so you end up with less "squirm" from the tyre - especially through hard corners. From Maxxis:
"As downhill courses get gnarlier, our products evolve with the topography. Maxxis downhill tubes are 1.5mm thick to eliminate pinch flats, add stability, and allow the use of low air pressure".
