RockShox Reverb Seatpost
Introduced last season, the RockShox Reverb post has quickly dominated the world of height-adjustable seatposts with it's smooth hydraulic actuation, impressive sealing and overall durability compared to some of the ropey alternatives out there. For 2012, RockShox introduces some rolling upgrades to the Reverb post with improved fitting hardware, hoses and bleed ports making the latest unit the most durable and easy to service yet. If you're looking to dive into the world of dropper posts and your main concerns are durability and ease of operation, there is no better choice than the awesome RockShox Reverb.
Featuring an infinite range of adjustment between full extension and full compression, the RockShox Reverb post allows you to lower your centre of gravity for hard cornering, heavy rock gardens and technical descending. This drops your weight down lower between the wheels and all without having to get off the bike to adjust your seat post clamp! Initially being the domain of longer travel All Mountain bikes, height-adjustable seatposts are becoming more and more popular on shorter travel trail and XC bikes for their ability to lower your centre of gravity almost instantly, which is ideal for any technical off road riding. Flick the lever on your handlebar and you can drop the saddle height up to 125mm on-the-fly. With the RockShox Reverb, you can even adjust the speed at which the seatpost returns, which is all fine tuned via the hydraulic remote. For the average rider, this ability to adjust seatpost height means you will have more confidence when attacking rough terrain or descents that usually give you the wobblies. Even cornering can be negotiated with more traction and stability, as a quick hit on the switch drops you lower down between the wheels. Sure it isn't as light as a regular seatpost, but if it means you can stay on the bike more often without having to jump off and adjust your seatpost height, (or heaven forbid, walk down the steep stuff!) you should definitely consider the Reverb.
For the 2012 model, RockShox has gone stealth with an all-black finish, which is an easy way to identify the difference between a 2011 and 2012 unit. Updated hardware and bleed fittings have improved reliability and make bleeding the reverb an absolute doddle. Included with the post is the Reverb bleed kit as well as the RockShox 2.5wt oil required. For those riders who aren't so keen to get the hydro cutters and syringes out, the My Mountain workshop can help install the Reverb, trim the hose to the correct length, and bleed the system for smooth and faultless operation.
Choosing Your Reverb
There are a number of fitting options with the RockShox Reverb post, depending on the specifications of your frame as well as the type of bike you're on and your riding style. Like any seatpost, there are different diameters available to fit different seat tubes; simply select the correct diameter post to fit your frame. You now also have a choice between 100mm or 125mm of travel, so you can choose exactly the right amount of total saddle drop required for your riding style and your bike. We would recommend for 29er riders and XC bikes to go with the shorter 100mm travel model, while big All Mountain rigs will mostly prefer the extra drop of the 125mm model.
Lastly, there a 3 different options for the total seatpost length, which is the distance between the bottom of the seatpost and the middle of the saddle clamp. Firstly check how deep a seatpost can be inserted into your frame; some frames have interrupted seat tubes with pivots or internal machining limiting the amount your post can be slid down. Once you've worked out the maximum length of seatpost that can be inserted into your frame, measure the length of seatpost sticking out of the frame up to the saddle rails at your optimum pedalling position. Add these 2 measurements together, and you'll have the maximum length Reverb you can fit into your frame. The Reverb comes in 355mm, 380mm and 420mm lengths, so it's easy to choose the right length for your frame.
From RockShox:
"When you’re ripping through rolling terrain, cranking the pedals one minute and getting off the back of the bike the next, no seat height is “just right.” The all-new Reverb gives you 125mm of infinite seat height adjustment and control of your return speed in a hydraulically actuated remote package. A custom sealing system means the plush and consistent feel of this seat post won’t degrade no matter how much the weather does".
