2012 Trek Madone 4.7 Carbon Road Bike
The 4 series Trek Madone has gone through a major redesign for 2012, giving the 4 series rider and phenomenal package that not only looks great, but also has some real world, performance enhancing technology. Now OCLV certified, the Madone 4.7 frame takes on some of the advanced carbon lay-up techniques that traditionally has been kept only for the more expensive 5 & 6 series bikes. It also means that the 4 series is put through all of Trek’s proprietary 27 frame tests, which is quite a few more to the usual industry standard of 12. With Trek having 20 years experience engineering and manufacturing carbon fiber frames, they have poured in all of their techniques into the latest 4 series frame to produce a lighter, stiffer, smoother and faster bike. The E2 tapered head tube, braze-on front derailleur mount, BB90 press-fit bottom bracket and even the Duo-Trap integrated computer mount are all features that enhance the riding experience and show Trek's vast experience in building Tour-winning road bikes.

Compared to last years model, the 2012 Madone 4.7 now gets a press fit bottom bracket instead of the traditional thread-in style used on cheaper bikes. The BB90 system gives you a 90mm wide bottom bracket shell (the widest on any road bike) and combined with the shapely seat tube, this junction provides a massively strong and stiff interface for your cranks. The result is near-instant acceleration and response under power, bringing race level efficiency to the smooth riding Madone platform. Transferring your leg power into wheel movement is a full Shimano Ultegra drivetrain & brakeset that makes the 4.7 a significant step up from the Madone 4.5, with reduced weight and slicker shifting. Other noteworthy improvements include the lighter Race Lite carbon fork and the Bontrager Race wheelset that reduces rotational weight to improve acceleration and handling response.
All of this adds up to make the new Madone 4.7 the choice for competitive cyclists and road riding enthusiasts wanting top-level ride quality.

Our favourite features of the Madone 4.7

400 Series OCLV

Ultra high performance, within reach. The areal weight range and modulus mix of 400 Series OCLV provides an exhilarating sense of acceleration and confident handling.

Wider is better, Lighter is better too

BB90 is the widest bottom bracket available on a road bike. This Trek-exclusive carbon BB makes the frame lighter, stiffer, and quicker to accelerate.
BB90 eliminates the need for extra inserts and parts in the bottom bracket/frame junction. Fewer parts mean a lighter frame

DuoTrap

DuoTrap seamlessly integrates the computer sensor into the frame to measure speed, distance, and cadence with no added aerodynamic drag and no ugly cable ties or tape. It also works with all the major ANT+ wireless technology players, including Bontrager, Garmin, Powertap, and SRM.
