Shimano AM45 DX SPD Shoes
Perfect for DH riders, All Mountain riding or trail riders wanting a little extra protection, the AM45 shoe from Japanese brand Shimano seems to get the skate-shoe style blended with mountain bike performance just right. Also available in a non-SPD version is the AM41. Shimano revolutionised the cycling world when it brought out the very first shoe/pedal clipping system, SPD, back in 1990. Designed to integrate shoes with a clip-in pedal system, SPD or Shimano Pedalling Dynamics brought in a new era of performance by drastically increasing riders efficiency by allowing much more power throughout the pedal stroke and not just in the downward push. Fast-foward over 20 years later, and Shimano is still leading the market with it's wide-range of performance and recreational shoes for cyclists of all disciplines.
Aggressive Style
Often referred to as the Shimano DX Shoe, the AM45 shoes are the perfect match for the Shimano DX pedals or any other kind of platform clipless pedal. Compared to their non-SPD counterparts, the Shimano AM41 Shoe, the AM45's are compatible with SPD pedals via the cleat mounting plate on the underside of the sole. Combined with a stiffer fibreglass midsole, the AM45's work well with either flats or clipless pedals and resist flexing over the pedal body to ensure comfort for the arch of your foot on longer rides. The generous cleat mounting area allows you to position the cleats further underneath the arch of your foot for stability when downhill riding or jumping, and there's no pesky tread blocks to get in the way when you're searching for the pedal to clip in. The sticky sole uses a low-profile that is surprisingly grippy, though a little undergunned if you're going to be doing a lot of off the bike hiking. A full Synthetic Leather upper boosted with armour provides your tootsies with protection should you take a spill, and while the lack of mesh doesn't make these the breeziest shoes in Summer, it also aids in keeping out moisture and debris. A huge velcro flap covers the laces, doubling as a weather-resistant shield while also keeping your laces away from the drivetrain. Not everyone will be drawn to the "moon boots" aesthetic, however the upper features an easy-to-clean surface that reduces dirt and mud buildup. With a roomier Volume+ LAST, the AM45's give you plenty of wiggle room in the toe box and allow you to run thicker socks for a little more cushioning.
