Santa Cruz Superlight
Together with the Heckler, Juliana and Bullit, the Superlight rounds out the Santa Cruz single pivot range, based on the original dual suspension models the brand built its foundations on. The Superlight is designed as an XC trail bike that is light and snappy enough to be raced on, whilst also being comfortable and durable enough for clocking up serious trail mileage. The lightweight Aluminum frame from Santa Cruz Bikes produces 100mm (4”) of rear travel via the Fox Float rear shock, allowing riders to setup the suspension for their weight and riding style, and is suited for suspension forks between 100-120mm travel, with the latter being more suitable for trail riding and the former better suited to XC racing. With all the sophisticated tubing manipulation combined the simple mono-pivot layout, the engineers at Santa Cruz Bicycles have managed to whittle the Superlights total mass down to just 2500 grams with shock. And depending on which build kit route you take, this will give you a complete bike weight somewhere between 10-12kg.

From Santa Cruz:

“Our single pivot suspension design has been tweaked and refined throughout its evolution, upholding a longstanding reputation for lively performance and incredible reliability. With 100mm of rear travel, a carefully optimized single pivot suspension and a lightweight aluminum frame, the Superlight is a sharp handling, snappy accelerating cross-country machine. Featuring freshly redesigned frame tubing and upgraded pivot hardware, the Superlight is one of the best values on the market.”

Simply Advanced
With the tagline "Simply Advanced", the Superlight is all about keeping things simple and durable in a lightweight, 100mm travel XC package. Taking a different approach to the brands Virtual Pivot “VPP” suspension, the Superlight relies on one main pivot for the rear suspension in order to keep things clean and uncomplicated, and as a result makes maintenance a breeze. New for the 2011 Superlight is the oversized 15mm aluminum pivot axle that runs on sealed Angular Contact bearings with locking collet heads – all designed to keep the rear end nice and stiff, while reducing complexity and service requirements. The pivot location for the Superlight has been designed to provide a certain amount of antisquat, which reduces pedal bob and gives you efficient pedalling in a wide range of gears. The high and forward nature of the main pivot means the rear wheel extend backwards under compression, allowing the rider to maintain more momentum on the rough stuff without having their rear wheel getting caught up on square edged hits.
All in all, the Superlight gives you effective, tunable suspension that has very few quirks, whilst also being incredibly simple and durable too.

Looking at buying my wife a medium-sized red Santa Cruz Superlight frame. TBSM can do for $1334.95. Would prefer a shock with lockout (TBSM spec is Float R). Can you do a better price or shock upgrade? Any good deals on 100 - 120mm forks (with lockout) at the moment? Regards Steve Clarke

Hi Steve, What a fantastic husband! That's an excellent choice for your partner, as the Superlight is a comfortable and confident riding XC/trail bike that we find suits female riders who don't want anything too soft or heavy. In regards to the Superlight frame, we are actually selling the 2012 model that comes with a custom-valved Fox Float RL rear shock. This shock comes with both Rebound and Lockout adjustment, so you wouldn't need to spend any extra money to swap out the shock in order to get the Lockout. Perhaps the frame you are looking at TBSM is an older model? As for forks, we predominantly stock Fox Forks though we can also get RockShox. However, there is a chance that we could do you a Santa Cruz frame/fork deal where we could get you onto a Fox Float 100 or 120 fork at a really sweet price. Do you know if you need standard quick release dropouts or QR15? Regards, Wil My Mountain
