661 Comp 2 Full Face Downhill Helmet
One of the best-selling full face helmets on the market, the 661 Comp 2 is exceptionally good value in a world of $500+ carbon fiber lids. Whether you're getting into shuttle/lift-assisted DH riding or you just want a quality lid that will protect your noggin, the Comp 2 saves you cash over flashier helmets while still providing impressive protection. While some folk may be inclined to spend their hard-earned on flashy wheels or anodized components, regular mountain bikers will know how much of a difference that having quality apparel can make to your ride. Thankfully, 661 have found a way to combine quality design and a high level of protection into top-value products. Whether it's their D30 body armour, Full Face helmets or slick range of MTB specific gloves, they've got all the pieces you could need out on the trail to ensure you're comfortable and protected.
Full Face Necessity
For Downhill or Freeride, a mountain bike full face helmet is a must. In fact, for Downhill races you won't be able to rock up to the start line without one. Providing more protection at the back of your skull, around the jaw and the chin and mouth, a Full Face helmet gives you more assurance in a wider range of crashes. Combined with a quality neck brace like a Leatt, you'll be ready for anything the trail throws at you, with confidence that your gear will be able to keep you and your body on the straight and narrow. 661 offer a wide range of helmets for the Downhill, Freeride or Dirt Jump rider, with differing levels of weight and adjustability. The Comp 2 helmet is their entry-level DH model but maintains the quality standards that 661 is renowned for as well as meeting the tough Australian standards for helmet safety.
Bomber Value
Designed to complement the 661 body armour range, the 661 Comp 2 helmet is a snug-fitting full face mountain bike helmet that gives you the protection of the more expensive models, at a price that will keep your wallet and your loved ones happy. Using an injected poly carbonate shell with an EPS foam inner liner to keep things light, the Comp 2 also utilises some neat features like the adjustable visor and tension straps to ensure a comfortable fit. It gets a total of 12 intake/exhaust ports for ventilation - particularly important for hot Aussie Summer conditions. While you can't remove the internal pads for washing, brands such as Muc-Off provide a clever foam-cleaning product that you can spray inside the helmet to remove odour and freshen up the lining. The full panorama eyeport is compatible with MTB goggles, though you can ride without if you prefer. While the flashier models utilise carbon fiber and kevlar materials, the Comp 2 ditches the glitz for straight-forward protection in a lid that you won't feel nervous about riding with. At the end of the day, those expensive Carbon helmets are still a throw-away item should you damage them during an impact, and with this in mind the Comp 2 makes a lot of sense for the rider who still wants protection without having to spend a fortune.
From 661:
