2015 Santa Cruz Heckler 27.5 Frameset
Over the years, the Santa Cruz Heckler has achieved a reputation in the industry for being one of the original "do-it-all" bikes, with it's stout frame, sure-footed geometry and generously plush suspension. Perhaps the cornerstone in the Santa Cruz Bike lineup due to it's long history, the Heckler is still as relevant in todays market as the day it first left the drawing board. Sure there are lighter bikes out there with more sophisticated linkages and frame designs, but there is something to be said for the timeless simplicity and clean lines of the Heckler that will always appeal to riders looking for maximum durability and reliability in a quality package. Last year Santa Cruz Bicycles upgraded the Heckler to a full 6" suspension, with the ability to accept forks between 150-160mm travel, depending on the ride characteristics you're after: 150mm for quicker handling in tighter singletrack, or 160mm for ultimate stability on steep, fast-paced descents. They also fitted a tapered head tube, a curved top tube that's designed to maximise stand over clearance and a slacker head tube angle for better high speed stability. For 2014, the Heckler now comes decked out with the in-between wheel size; 27.5". Given it's 150mm of rear wheel travel and geometry revisions, the Heckler is essentially a single-pivot version of the popular Bronson bike, giving riders more choice when looking for the right Santa Cruz for their riding style and budget.

From Santa Cruz:

"The Heckler shares the same super awesome geometry as the Bronson, delivered in a robust single pivot package. With 27.5” wheels and 150mm travel the Heckler continues Santa Cruz's heritage in single pivot aluminum suspension. Ideal as an All Mountain heavy hitter, the low maintenance single pivot design minimises pedal feedback, and loves nothing more than railing berms, popping out of turns and smashing through rock gardens. Day after day after day."

D Build Kit:
If you're looking to get onto a high quality Santa Cruz bike without having to spend the earth, the 'D' level build kit is your ticket. Santa Cruz have gone above and beyond to ensure that the key components in the D kit are built to last, while providing much of the same performance as you'll find on the top-level stuff. Despite a more accessible pricepoint, you're still getting air-adjustable suspension, tubeless compatible wheels, and a proper modern cockpit setup with nicely wide riser bars and a comfy WTB saddle.

  • RockShox Sektor Gold RL fork w/150mm travel, Solo Air, tapered steerer tube, 15mm Maxle Lite
  • Shimano 2x10 Speed Deore/SLX drivetrain with SRAM S1000 34/22t crankset and SLX Shadow Plus rear derailleur
  • SRAM DB1 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm front/160mm rear disc rotors
  • Raceface Ride 740mm low-rise bars, Raceface Ride stem & Santa Cruz Palmdale lock-on grips
  • Raceface Ride seatpost and WTB Volt Race saddle
  • WTB STi23 TCS tubeless compatible wheelset w/SRAM MTH hubs
  • Maxxis High Roller 2 2.3" front & rear EXO Tubeless Ready tyres

R Build Kit:
Compared to the entry level D build kit, the 'R' kit utilises the same drivetrain, the same cockpit, and the same tubeless compatible wheelset. So what are you getting for your extra monies then? The biggest upgrade is of course the move to a RockShox Pike RC fork up front, which employs a beefier chassis and a higher quality damper to provide super smooth suspension performance. You also get more adjustability thanks to the Charger RC damper, so you can dial in the fork for your trails and riding style. Santa Cruz have also up-specced the brakes to the new Shimano Deore stoppers, which provide increased power, better reliability and ease of setup too.
