2012 Exposure Joystick Light Mk.6
A compact and sleek helmet light, the biggest surprise with the Joystick is its tenacious power. Updated with 325 Lumens at full whack gives you singletrack capability or a high quality rechargeable light for commuting and road riding. Designed and manufactured in England, Exposure lights have been engineered by a bunch of egg-heads who began the company due to their love of off road night riding. With a desire to create better rechargeable bike lights than what was available on the market at the time, the designers set out to create a specific range of mountain bike lights that were tough, compact, cable free and bearing in mind the terrible UK weather; sealed against the elements. Looking up close, you'll be able to tell that each unit has been lovingly CNC machined, with a tough alloy casing that allows for fine tolerances and perfect alignment of all parts to ensure everything seals up tight. As LED technology has sky-rocketed ahead of the old halogen and HID bulbs, Exposure have been able to capitlise on their compact designs due to the efficient nature of LED's, with less room having to be taken up by big heavy batteries. Not only are LED lights efficient, they are also becoming more powerful as new globes hit the market, such as the Cree XPG units used on the 2012 Exposure bike lights range. Unlike a lot of the cheap Chinese lights on the market, the Exposure lights actually have their output verified, so you're getting all the light you paid for, in a high quality package that's designed to last a lot longer too.

Pocket Rocket
The Joystick MK.6 is the latest incarnation of this popular helmet light, with a new Cree XPG LED bumping up power to a singletrack-worthy 325 Lumens. The Joystick makes a great option for mountain biking as a solo light, with the same kind of output as a lot of other brands top-end race lights. For the more serious endurance racer, you'll want to pair it with a handlebar light for high speed singletrack, though it is surprising how good this little light is on it's own. The Joystick includes a clever helmet mount that is not only one of the lightest on the market, it is also one of the most secure, with a simple clamp that tightens down into one of the vents on your helmet. You can easily remove the Joystick from the clamp when it comes time to charge, which will take you 4 hours from full depletion and you can do so with the supplied AC charger or USB cable. This is particularly handy if you use the Joystick as your to-and-from work light, as you can plug it into the computer during the day to top up charge before you head home.

Commuter Extraordinaire
As a road-going option, the Joystick makes a lot of sense if you clock up the miles on your commuter bike, whether it's on the bike path, city streets or dimly lit back roads. It's substantially brighter than a lot of the little commuter lights on the market, but it's main drawcard is the rechargeable Lithium Ion battery that gives you up to 24 hours of burn time. If you factor in how many disposable AA batteries you go through on regular bike lights, it's easy to see that the Joystick becomes a much cheaper, and brighter option in the long run.

From Exposure Lights:

"Champion of All that it shines upon. The very word Joystick brings a smile to your face because this light will be one of the best loved bits of kit you'll ever own. Many thousands of satisfied customers and countless awards are not wrong. Even more versatility now with extra lumen output, the Joystick is THE light to own for all sports. The Joystick uses one Cree XPG R5 LED. The Cree XPG R5 is a more refined, higher quality LED of the same type used in the 2011 range. It keeps the same great beam patterns and colour temperature but the light has an additional 7-10% output over last year’s models. We are quoting 325 lumens per LED rather than the 300 in 2011. We have also continued to work on the optics so in lights such as the Joystick there is a greater improvement than seen in the quoted increase. Designed to be light, only 98g with the Helmet Mount. Smart Port Technology allows you to run a range of accessories from your Exposure Light, double up the brightness with a WhiteEye, or extend the burn time with a Piggyback battery".
