2012 Trek Madone 6.9 SSL Carbon Racing Bike The Madone 6.9 SSL is Trek's most advanced bike encompasing every last ounce of technology available from the worlds best carbon engineers and of course the worlds best riders. The team that develop the SSL, or "Super Sexy Light" frame are peple such as Lance Armstrong (7 time tour winner), the Schleck brothers and the worlds strongest rider Fabian Cancelara, and that's just naming the big guns. On the technical side you have a team of 37 carbon and composite engineers, some of which have lead projects in the aerospace industry like the V-22 Airoplane that turns into a helicopter, and the design of fighter jets. These guys were the pioneers behind carbon in the bike industy way back in 1991, when the US Postal team lined up at the Tour on a full OCLV carbon bike and won. The rest of the bike industry has been trying to catch up ever since, and incidentally, that first bike is still under warranty. Life time guarantee, no exceptions. When you put a bunch of rocket scientist together with the worlds best climbers, grand tour winners and aggressive power houses and you get the Madone 6.9 SSL. No other bikes comes close!
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to bang on about the build of this Madone as like all 6 series bikes it is completely customisable through Trek Project One at no extra cost. There isn't any price penalty for customising as every bike comes from the same place, hand built in Wisconsin USA by around 45 skilled builders. This version of the Madone 6.9 SSL is one of the models that Trek keep in stock for those who want quick turn around (less than a week) and don't want to wait the 30 or so days for their truly unique custom road bike. As you can tell from the spec list below, this example is decked out with nothing but the best. Shimano Dura Ace, Bontrager XXX cockpit and of course the impressive Bontrager XXX Lite carbon wheels that can often be seen at the front of the peleton on the big mountain stages of the grand tours. Make the Madone 6.9 SSL truly unique by crafting a custom road bike
Di2-specific cable stops and a slick bottom bracket battery mount allow for the perfect interface with the industry-leading Shimano Di2 electronic drivetrain. The system is integrated without a single zip tie, strap or piece of tape. It’s the most seamless component integration in the industry. The bottom bracket cable stop is replaced with a slick Di2 battery mount using a single screw. Simple & slick. Di2-specific cables connectors are 7mm wide instead of the standard 4mm. Madone has specific adapters for both, so you don't need electrical tape to route cables through the frame.
DuoTrap DuoTrap seamlessly integrates the computer sensor into the frame to measure speed, distance, and cadence with no added aerodynamic drag and no ugly cable ties or tape. It also works with all the major ANT+ wireless technology players, including Bontrager, Garmin, Powertap, and SRM.
OCLV is Trek's patented USA carbon production process. Optimum Compaction (OC) means the carbon material is densely compressed, achieving the optimal fiber-to-resin ratio to maximise strength and minimize weight. Low Void (LV) means the carbon has almost no microscopic gaps between carbon layers, achieving a strength that exceeds even aerospace standards. No other bicycle manufacturer has this level of carbon technology.
Trek’s integrated cable management is highly engineered for sleek styling and real-world performance that comes from better compatibility with current drivetrains. Optimal cable routing offers flawless shifting, better braking, and easier assembly and maintenance.
Trek have designed a Ride-Tuned seatmast to save energy and counter the pounding doled out by three-week Grand Tours. It’s the lightest and most comfortable solution for riders interested in day-in, day-out performance and comfort. Most seatmast systems have to be cut leaving little or no adjustability. Madone's seatmast system has more than 10 cm of adjustment making it the most adjustable system on the market.
Madone's no-cut seatmast eliminates traditional seatpost clamping forces. That means we can use less material at the seat tube junction, resulting in a lighter frame
