Bontrager Race Lite Wheels
While they miss out on the exotic Scandium alloy of the RXL model, the Race Lite road wheels provide outstanding bang for your buck in a durable and stiff wheelset that puts other brands to shame at this pricepoint. Whether you're after a bulletproof set of training wheels, a responsive wheelset for Cyclocross racing or you're just sick of shredding through bearings and spokes on your current hoops, the RL wheels are a great option for a wide-range of riders. Unlike some other factory wheels, the RL rims feature a stiff box-section profile for rigidity and use eyeleted spoke holes to minimise binding when truing. Compared to the twin-paired lacing pattern of old, the 2012 Race Lite wheels feature a more traditional spoke pattern that more evenly distributes stress around the rim wall. This results in a stronger overall wheel that doesn't require ridiculously high spoke tension to keep it stiff, so you're less likely to bust spokes. Continuing the durability theme is the Anodized finish on the rims that is both lighter than powdercoating and also more scratch-reistant.
The DT Swiss manufactured hubs employ dependable cartridge bearings for excellent sealing against the elements and easy replacement if they ever do wear out. The user-serviceable freehub is simple to pull apart and maintain and features improved engagement for quicker response under power. Designed as part of a complete system, the hub flanges are optimised for wide spoke placement to allow for more even tension and lateral rigidity, contributing to the wheels stout characteristic. In fact, we would go so far to say that the Race Lite wheelset is so solid that it is suitable for cyclocross riding & racing due to its durable hub design and stiff rims. Though if your preference is clocking up endless kilometres on the bitumen, or transporting you to work & back on your daily commute, the RL wheels are great for that too.
