Truvativ AKA 2.1 Crankset
While much of the buzz for 2012 has been around the SRAM 10 speed drivetrains, many riders are still rocking 9 speed setups and are not keen in investing a whole bunch of cash into a whole new drivetrain. The AKA crankset is basically a 9 speed version of the popular X9 crank, with the same Hollow Forged Alloy crankarms keeping things light and stiff and the re-designed GXP bottom bracket system with its Gutter Seal Technology. If the bling of carbon is too much, and you're not interested in listening to the marketing hype behind 10 speed, the AKA Cranks are the perfect option for riders wanting maximum performance at a minimum cost.

Utilising a Hollow Forged Alloy construction that is otherwise known as OCT (Open Core Technology), the lightweight crank arms on the AKAs are surprisingly stiff and will lay the power down amongst the best of them. Like all modern Truvativ cranks, the AKA use the GXP 2-piece design that sees the bottom bracket axle fused to the drive side crank arm, with the non-drive side attaching via a stout crank bolt/extractor cap. The AKA cranks come with the Truvativ BB system that employs Gutter Seal technology to keep more crud out, and more grease in resulting in smooth-spinning performance that lasts.
Drawing on their experience with the 2x10 XX chainrings, the AL-7075 alloy rings on the AKA's get a whole host of tooth profiling, ramps and pins to ensure fast and accurate shifting. Being the 2.1 model, these AKA cranks get a dual chainring setup and bashguard that will suit All Mountain riders wanting a bit more protection for the bottom of their frame during impacts. The 24/36t combination still gets you plenty of low range gearing, but the 36t big ring complements the faster speeds reached on technical descents that 5-6" travel bikes are capable of. While the chainrings are 9 speed specific, you can always swap in 10 speed chainrings down the line to future proof your drivetrain.

From SRAM:

"Stability + Strength. At the halfway mark between XC lightness and DH heft you’ll find AKA. These are go-anywhere, do-anything components for riders who have those two goals in mind. All-mountain stiffness. All-mountain strength. All in a stylish, lightweight package."
