Avid HSX Centerlock Disc Brake Rotor The stock rotor used for the 2012 SRAM XX brakes, the HSX rotor uses the same updated braking surface that the HS1 rotor features but with a lighter 2-piece construction. The alloy central spider used on the HSX rotor not only reduces weight and boosts rotor stiffness, it also provides heat sinking properties. Designed as a replacement for the Avid G3 disc brake rotor, the new HS rotor series are designed specifically for Avid Elixir brakes and the SRAM XX and X0 brake series. The main drawcard of the new rotors is the cross-drilled design that has been employed along with a new braking surface for improved heat dissipation. By reducing heat build up on the rotor/pad area, the brake calliper runs cooler and is less likely to be affected by brake fade on long descents. The new HSX rotor comes in a couple of new sizes to match the 2012 Avid brake range, including the re-sized 180mm and 200mm diameters. While not a particularly glamorous upgrade, ensuring you have the right disc rotors for your brakes can mean the difference between control, and losing it. Using the same brand of rotor, calliper and brake pad goes a long way to maximising available braking power and ensuring longer life for your brake pads. And lets face it; the last thing you want to be worrying about when scaling a steep rocky chute is whether your brakes are going to provide enough stopping force.
