Truvativ BB GXP Team PressFit BB92 Suited to the new pressfit standard used on high-end Trek and Pivot mountain bikes, the Truvativ GXP BB92 pressfit bottom bracket is the option you need to run Truvativ or SRAM cranks on your MTB. Rather than using a traditional threaded bottom bracket shell, many modern frames are using a press-fit standard that is similar to a headset. The GXP bottom bracket comes as a set of bearings that are housed in a composite shell, which is directly pressed into your frame, instead of being threaded in like a traditional BB. You can only use this bottom bracket on a BB92 PressFit standard frame. Like the standard GXP bottom bracket, the pressfit BB features new bearings and Gutter Seal technology, making it more durable and smoother than ever. Compared to Shimano bottom brackets, the GXP system is designed to work differently than most other external-cup bottom brackets. The right side bearings are designed to float a bit, while the left side is held in place by a step-down on the crank axle. The design not only eliminates the necessity to side-load the bearings during installation, but should roll smoother and last longer. Note 1: BB92 refers to the width of the frames bottom bracket shell; 92mm. This is not to be confused with the road version of this standard; BB86, which uses an 86mm wide bottom bracket shell. The different width is due to different chainline spacing between road and mountain bikes. Note 2: BB30 is a completely different standard. BB30 uses a 30mm crank spindle as oppose to the standard 24mm, and so requires both a BB30 specific frame and crank. From SRAM: "Welcome our new Gutter Seal Technology! Gutter drastically improves sealing against the elements while reducing seal drag. We’ve designed a fresh new cup forging for a new high-end look. A new standard in external bearing performance!"
