2012 Camelbak Classic 3.0L Hydration Pack
The appeal of the Camelbak Classic is its simplicity and sub-200 gram weight. In a backpack market filled with bungy cords, excess buckles, straps and other accessories you never knew you needed, the straight-forward approach of the Classic shows that more isn't necessarily better. The first brand to pioneer hands-free hydration, the Camelbak bladder revolutionized mountain biking, allowing riders to take the tubes, pumps, tools and water bottle off their bikes and stow it in a comfortable and durable backpack. With class-leading hydration technologies and field-tested pack designs, there is no other brand with a reputation anywhere near Cammelbak, and with a range of different styles and sizes available, there is a hydration solution for every rider out there.
As you know or have probably guessed, the Classic has been in Camelbak's lineup for many years, building itself a reputation as a quality, go-to hydration pack with the bare essentials and nothing more. Packing a huge 3 litre reservoir into it's tough 210D Nylon shell, you can fill up the Classic for longer 3+ hour rides and races where you just need a little more hydration than the usual mid-week training ride. One of the main advantages of using a hydration bladder like a Camelbak is that it encourages you to drink more often, as the bite valve is always readily accessible and avoids you having to bend over to reach down to a bottle cage around your feet. The Classic uses a single zippered compartment for stashing spares, a phone and/or wallet, and an external bungy cord provides additional space to strap on a jacket or knee pads. You get two adjustable shoulder straps with a single torso buckle for securing the harness onto your back, with a mesh construction allowing for breathability and decreased sweat buildup. Because the Classic is so light, it doesn't require a waist strap to stop it bouncing around like a heavier pack, and it's curved shape is designed to fit naturally to your back whilst riding. This also makes it very popular with endurance racers as at just 190 grams, the Classic is not a lot of extra weight to have on your bike and becomes almost unnoticeable during the ride. If you're riding in changeable weather conditions and need to carry additional clothing layers, you might want to check out a pack with more internal volume, but for Summer trail missions where you know you're going to be in the bush for a decent amount of time, check out the Classic for minimalist perfection.
Camelbak Antidote Bladder
A key reason why Camelbak packs stand out from the rest, the latest hydration bladder is incredibly durable for it's weight, uses a taste-free lining and is even leak proof too. In fact, Cammelback have so much confidence in their Antidote reservoir that they give them a lifetime warranty. The lining of the bladder is treated with HydroGuard™ in order to inhibit the growth of bacteria, keeping the water you drink safe and taste-free. With a huge opening on the Antidote reservoir, it is easy to get inside to clean out the reservoir, which is made even easier with the Camelbak cleaning kit. And when you're done filling up the bladder, the 1/4 turn Quick-snap cap makes everything safe, secure and leak proof. Compared to previous models that required many more turns to close off the filler cap, the latest Antidote model is almost impossible to over-tighten and is much more user-friendly. The quality doesn't stop there though, as the Camelbak Big Bite Valve provides easy hands-free drinking, with a small shut off valve for drip-free riding. One of the big improvements with the latest reservoir is it's quick release detachable drinking tube that can be removed from the bladder with a simple lever, allowing for separate cleaning as necessary.
