2012 Camelbak Charge 3.0L Hydration Pack
For endurance racers or anyone wanting to reduce weight on their mountain bike, the lightweight Charge pack provides you the same storage space and bladder size as the popular Mule, but at almost half the weight. The first brand to pioneer hands-free hydration, the Camelbak bladder revolutionized mountain biking, allowing riders to take the tubes, pumps, tools and water bottle off their bikes and stow it in a comfortable and durable backpack. With class-leading hydration technologies and field-tested pack designs, there is no other brand with a reputation anywhere near Cammelbak, and with a range of different styles and sizes available, there is a hydration solution for every rider out there.
Part of the Camelbak lightweight MTB range, the Charge takes many of the features found on the classic MTB range and applies the use of lightweight materials and construction to strip away excess weight. For example, the Charge series use a 40 Denier RipStop Nylon instead of the thicker 70 Denier Nylon found on other packs, as well as a breathable Exoskeleton™ back panel and Ultra-light 3-D Mesh harness for light, conforming and breathable contact points. Compared to the Charge LR, the standard model uses a regular Antidote bladder but steps it up to 3 litres for use on longer all-day rides and Endurance races where you need additional hydration. With 11.5 litres of storage space, there is plenty of room for tools, spares, food and extra clothing layers to make sure you can fix any mechanicals out on the trail and ensure you're prepared for changeable weather conditions. Modelled heavily on the legendary Mule, the Charge gives you a smaller front pocket with a gear organiser, a larger zippered main compartment and an Overflow storage area that uses compression straps and a stretchy lining that allows you to fit in a helmet or a jacket. While it may lack the fancy N.V.I.S and suspended harness systems used on some of the other Camelbaks, the low weight of the Charge pack means you don't need heavy duty support, and the flexible materials allow the bag to more comfortably hug your back with less rolling around of the pack when moving around on the bike.
While the Camelbak Mule is the go-to standard for all day mountain bike trips, some riders are looking for a lighter weight alternative that still allows them to carry enough gear and water for the long rides, but with less strain on their backs. The Charge pack delivers in this regard with it's lightweight, versatile and form-fitting design sure to make it a new favourite.
Camelbak Antidote Bladder
A key reason why Camelbak packs stand out from the rest, the latest hydration bladder is incredibly durable for it's weight, uses a taste-free lining and is even leak proof too. In fact, Cammelback have so much confidence in their Antidote reservoir that they give them a lifetime warranty. The lining of the bladder is treated with HydroGuard™ in order to inhibit the growth of bacteria, keeping the water you drink safe and taste-free. With a huge opening on the Antidote reservoir, it is easy to get inside to clean out the reservoir, which is made even easier with the Camelbak cleaning kit. And when you're done filling up the bladder, the 1/4 turn Quick-snap cap makes everything safe, secure and leak proof. Compared to previous models that required many more turns to close off the filler cap, the latest Antidote model is almost impossible to over-tighten and is much more user-friendly. The quality doesn't stop there though, as the Camelbak Big Bite Valve provides easy hands-free drinking, with a small shut off valve for drip-free riding. One of the big improvements with the latest reservoir is it's quick release detachable drinking tube that can be removed from the bladder with a simple lever, allowing for separate cleaning as necessary.
