Focus Black Raider 2.0 Mountain Bike
When you think of entry-level hardtail mountain bikes, a high quality German manufactured frame, RockShox forks, Avid hydraulic disc brakes and 10 speed drivetrain are not what you would expect. But that's exactly what you get with the Focus Black Raider, which packs in trail-ready performance while appealing to the budget conscious beginner mountain bike rider. Built in Germany, the lightweight Aluminium Alloy frame is a nice step above your mass-produced Asian frames, and features like the integrated headset, clean welds and smooth cable routing will have you appreciating the Black Raiders clean lines. Unlike some other Euro brands, the Focus gets modern trail geometry with a relaxed 69.5 degree head angle and a 100mm travel RockShox fork that provides stability and confidence when pointing downhill. The double butted tubing reduces trail vibration, though Focus have engineered the frame to be plenty stiff around the BB shell for maximum pedal response to provide snappy handling that will frankly embarrass other brands hardtails that are twice the price.
Being the middle of the 26" range, the Black Raider 2.0 gets a smattering of name-brand components for reliable performance without going overboard on price. As the trickle-down effect from the incredible SRAM XX groupset continues, SRAM X9 and X7 components are specced on the 2.0, providing the rider with efficient, smooth and dependable shifting that gives you the right gear for all conditions. Smooth braking is dished out by Avid Elixir disc brakes that use a larger rotor on the front to increase overall stopping power, and the sealed hydraulic system minimises potential maintenance issues compared to mechanical disc brakes. The lightweight Concept cockpit keeps overall weight down and quality high, and the fast-rolling Alex wheelset achieves that perfect balance between strength and lightweight that will stand up to week-in-week-out trail riding.
While there are lighter and more expensive options available, the Black Raider is a perfect beginner mountain bike that will help you get out onto the trails and develop your riding skills with no compromises on long term durability. It's comfortable and confident cockpit position helps guide the rider over rough terrain and the high quality German made frame will last you for years to come.
