SRAM PG-990 Cassette Lighter than the 980 cassette, the X0 level PG990 gets you dependable SRAM shifting performance at an excellent price. When servicing your bike, it's hard to go past SRAM Components for quality gear that's designed to last. A high-end bike is nothing without high-end components and even something as simple as a worn cassette can make the difference between mis-shifting or powering past your mate on that steep climb. Worn gear cables, a stretched chain and rough cassette teeth can all contribute to ghost shifting or dropping a chain, and are the key parts linking your pedal power to the wheel. Thankfully, SRAM offer a full range of quality chains & cassettes for every pricepoint, so you can ensure your gears are running smoothly and dependably. We won't get into the whole SRAM Shimano debate, though we will recommend sticking with the one brand for driveline components for optimum performance (eg; using SRAM cassettes with SRAM Chains). You will find that SRAM shifting is very positive and solid regardless of the conditions, and will give you many miles of dependable service. From SRAM: "SRAM's high-end mountain cassette, the PG-990, has awesome performance and looks to match. Weighing in at 275 g (11-32), the stiff steel cogs are supported by a red anodized alloy carrier to optimize weight and stiffness. The cog teeth are profiled using the SRAM PowerGlide II technology for quick and positive index shifting, and are engineered to work best with a SRAM PC-991 chain. Reliable and durable cassette technology".
Upgrades over PG-980 cassette: Red anodized spider carries 5 of the largest cogs, not 3, so the 990 is lighter, causes less damage to the hub body and provides a stiffer platform for cripser shifting under load.
