Truvativ AKA Mountain Bike Stem Recognising the emerging trail and All Mountain segments, Truvativ have created the lightweight AKA groupset that offers a balance between DH-strength and XC-weight. Perfect for longer travel dual suspension bikes and aggressive riding, now you don't have to compromise between running a lightweight and flexy stem or a stiff but overweight stem. Forged from 7050 Alloy, the resulting construction is stiffer than when using cheaper 6000 series alloy and also allows for a lower overall weight. The AKA is perfect for All Mountain. With its short stackheight and 5 degree angle, you have plenty of setup options for your AKA stem, with the ability to flip it over for a negative rise that is ideal for 29er bikes with tall front ends. Changing the length of your stem by 10 or 20mm will noticeably change the handling of your trail or All Mountain bike; shorter for quicker steering and to push weight further back on your bike, or longer to increase the stretch to your grips and further weight your front tyre. If you aren't getting the best handling out of your bike, then considering a different length stem is a good start to improving your riding. Also worth noting is that a shorter stem better suits the current crop of 700mm+ wide handlebars, depending on your frame and fit of course, but for added DH stability and control a wider bar and shorter stem is an excellent combination.
