Avid X0 Disc Brake Taking the already impressive Avid Elixir CR Mag brake, SRAM integrated the X0 brake into its lineup and packed it with features to make it worthy of the versatile and high-performance reputation of X0. A carbon fiber lever blade, Pad Contact Adjustability, Tools-free reach adjuster, TaperBore master cylinder, MatchMaker X compatibility and the Power Reserve Geometry add up to make this one impressive brake out on the trail whether you're an XC racer or DH thrasher. Combined with the brand new HS1 rotor that better dissipates heat with its clever drilled design, the 2012 Avid X0 brakes get you state-of-the-art technology in a dependable and superlight package. The easiest way to think of the X0 brake is that it is an XX brakeset without the Magnesium body and Titanium bolts. Sharing a similar profile and the same awesome technologies, the X0 is substantially cheaper thanks to its omission of exotic materials. It still comes within 45 grams of the XX model, so you'll definitely have to be a weight weenie to want to go to the lofty XX brakes. Like the rest of the Elixir range, the X0 gets the impressive patented TaperBore reservoir that features a progressive action to the Master Cylinder. What this means to the rider out on the trail is that although you've got a tonne of power at your disposal, there is a wide, usable range of modulation up till that point so you can feather the brakes on steep and loose sections of trail without fear of locking up your wheels. Pad Contact Adjust Adding to the X0 brakes adjustability is the Pad Contact Adjuster that controls the bite point of the pads. This allows the rider to fine tune the point during the levers throw at when the pads contact the rotor, so you can have a long lever throw or a shorter lever throw. This simple adjustment will appeal to the fussiest of riders and combined with the tools-free reach adjuster allows you to achieve the perfect cockpit setup so you can concentrate more on the trail ahead. HS1 Rotor Redesigned for 2012 to reduce weight and improve heat dissipation, the latest Avid rotor replaces the G3 though is still compatible with older Elixir brakes. With a new brake track that features a drilled pattern, the HS1 reduces the amount of heat buildup from brake pad friction and keeps your brakes running cooler even on long descents. The result is less brake fade and will be particularly noticeable for gravity riders and heavier folks that run their brakes hard. Available sizes include the previous 140mm and 160mm diameters, though the larger sizes have been revised to 180mm and 200mm instead of the older 185 and 203 diameters. From SRAM:
"In one corner sits the trail ahead: rugged and unrelenting, luring you to go faster one moment, then throwing a tire-catching rootweb in your path the next. Chomping at the bit in the other corner is Avid X0. The newest member of the X0 family, this brake weighs in at a lean 333 grams, complete with forged aluminum lever body and caliper, tool-free contact point adjustment, and the legacy of precision and quality necessary to carry the X0 name. Packing an intuitive design and unmatched feel, X0 gives you the power to lean harder, push further and hit the trail with a one-two punch of performance and control".
